Let’s take a big leap into « The Color Line » — a Musée du Quai Branly / Jacques Chirac exhibition — : The first « Before » of the season is featuring Blacks to the Future ! Explore the African- American culture thanks to a varied program, mixing traditions and contemporary creations, in one evening.

B(s)ttF proposes :

READING SHOW | 8pm – 10pm
The voice is a crucial element among African-American struggles, from familial and traditional oral transmission to public exhortation (megaphone, ghetto blaster…). Follow the voice of art historian Dagara Dakin, at the heart of the exhibition.

Marianna and Michelle dance at the fronteer of hip hop and voguing in the Bonne Enfant company.

PROJECTION : ‘SPACE IS THE PLACE’ | All evening long

Experimental movie by jazzman and activist Sun Râ, with director John Coney. Available with French subtitles for the first time thanks to Justine Rousseau for Blacks to the Future ! We warmly invite you to watch and discover one of the first African-American Afrofuturist manifesto.

BARBER SHOP & HEADSCARF WORKSHOP | All evening long

On the one hand, the hair and the hairdo give us many ways to define our beauty principles ; on the other hand, the salon is one of the first financiary emancipation spaces for African-American communities after the World War I… Let’s go from history to practice : come learn how to tie your scarves and take care of your beard !
With 235Th Barber Street (barbershop) and Pallaya Shellbè (headscarf workshop).

At the « Barber Shop & Headscarf » Workshop, but also at the center of the Theatre, come and watch 3 movies by B(s)ttF-Studio members M.Y. and Eden du Paradis. They are archivists of the future who work on documenting past, present and future History with a certain Color Line.
